New Home Page, Artist Features, and Upgrades

Art For Progress Artist Happenings
 

Welcome to our May newsletter. We just launched a new home page, expanded artist features, and upgraded our audio and video players on the AFP web site. We have two big events in May and

a bunch of other cool openings and events this month.

 

We'd love to here some feedback on the new home page. Please e-mail us at admin@artforprogress.org with comments and suggestions. 

AFP's Featured Artists 

 DJ :: Jago

 

If you missed "Clash of the Artists", than you missed 13 year old DJ Jago's winning performance! You'll be hearing a lot more from Jake as he's featured at upcoming AFP events and other spots around town, but you can listen to his flavor by checking out our home page. 

 

Fashion Design :: Kari Smistek

 

Kari Smistek is a designer committed to sustainable fashion. Throug the use

of recycled and vintage fabrics, she is creating clothing in an independent modern way. Kari also creates custom and one-of-a-kind pieces.

 

Filmmaker :: Daniel Maldonado, Episode #22 (mis_ing)

 

Episode #22 (mis_ing) is a handmade film and is the 2nd installment
in a series of experimental horror works. The next episode (in reverse order) is Episode #21 (The Hidden), a commissioned film which will have a preview screening at Shorts and Beats Volume 6, San Francisco.

Music :: Muj

 

Muj is a mish-mash of musical styles that encompasses the best of dance pop, rock, world, trip-hop, and techno. Their self-produced debut album 2012 received rave reviews and comparisons to Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, Radiohead, MGMT, and The Killers.

 

Visual Art :: Pere Ibañez

 

Pere is a native of Barcelona, Spain where he studied the arts and cinema. His current photography project called "EneME" is a series of art photgraphy representing the dark, destructive side of the human being.

On Saturday, May 22nd Art For Progress will present emerging filmmakers and Shorts_&_Beats v3underground DJs at Project One

in San Francisco, California. The popular event series heads west and teams up with Nitevibe for promotional support.

Gabe Kirchheimer Photo Exhibition

 

Burning Man, the celebrated annual art festival in Nevada's 65_Aerial_1_50022barren Black Rock Desert, is the subject of these surrealistic photographs taken between 1998 and 2008. Gabe Kirchheimer is the event's most widely published photographer and an original AFP member. 'Snice is a cozy vegetarian restaurant with friendly staff and good food. The show runs through May.
